If you’ve dropped by lately, you’ve seen some new people working Priority Printing. Here’s who’s who in the shop:

LeRoy: Nikole’s husband LeRoy has taken the full-time reins of running the company. While his background is logistics, he’s finding he can adapt his people and business skills to the printing industry fairly easily. Let him know if you have questions or concerns.

Marissa: As many of you know, our long-time team member Mindy has gone to the “big city” of Sacramento to pursue her career, so we asked Marissa to join us as customer service lead. That’s her friendly voice on the other end of the phone! She recently completed her BA in graphic design at the International Academy of Art and Design in Sacramento and worked her way through college in restaurants and service companies, so she is well-adapted to the fast pace of our shop. She’s helping us computerize more of our processes and is learning everyone’s name, so please introduce yourselves.

Teresa: For years we’ve offered graphic design through contract services but we haven’t had someone in the shop to support us directly. We’ve wanted to change that for a long time, so are thrilled to include Teresa on our team. She has many years of experience in communications and design, including design and pre-press for print. She can change gears between creative design and our fast-paced production without a hitch. Rick really appreciates the help.

Rick and Jack are celebrating their 15th and 16th years with Priority Printing, respectively. We couldn’t do this without them – we are so grateful for this wonderful team!

I mean your business cards, of course! Do they feel weighty in your hand? Do you like the way they feel when you hand them out? Take a little extra time to choose the right feel for your business cards. Here are some options:

–High-end paper in a heavy weight, like a Classic Crest smooth 110# (pronounced one hundred ten pound) adds 15-20% to the price of a box of cards, but you card will last longer in someone’s card case. The perfect a matte finish encourages your clients to jot notes on your card.

–Raised lettering and raised logos were once the more high end but now provide a unique, traditional finish that’s surprisingly affordable, even when combined with heavier paper. Please ask us for a quote.

–Gloss on front, also available in a 110# weight, is perfect if you have a photograph on your card. A matte finish back still encourages note-writing.

–UV Coating, one side or both, is also available. The cards are slippery and impossible to write on, plus it’s a bit harder on the environment. However, these are the longest lasting card, so please ask us about them for your business.

You deserve a high-touch experience when selecting your business card design and paper. Feel free to come in and “feel” the paper and options for yourself. We would be honored to help you create an image you’ll be proud to hand out to your prospective clients.

I love one of last month’s blogs from the Small Business Administration, where they explain that people judge you by your appearance. The move to casual dress may have gone too far, they think, and our productivity may be suffering because of it.

“Think about the image you want your employees, customers and clients to have about your business. Are you dressing in a way that reflects that same image?”

I could ask the same about your printed collateral! Let’s take envelopes, for example. What do yours look like? Are they hand scrawled? Do you have an ancient return mail stamp? Or do you use a freebie address label?

Dress your business for success! For just a small investment, you can send bids, invoices, statements, thank-you notes, and any other correspondence in an envelope that represents your business professionally. Ask us about our fall envelope special.

Really, printers can be green! Here’s how Priority Printing reduces our impact on the environment:

* We offer post-consumer waste paper product options

* We use only low-VOC (volatile organic compounds) inks and wash-up products

* We carefully use and recapture of cleaning liquids and materials

* We recycle our paper! All types of paper and boxes go in our special recycling bins (look for the blue bins at the back of the parking lot), plus we donate old paper and trim scraps to local non-profits

* We reduce our carbon footprint: We use our van as little as possible by pre-planning pickups and deliveries

* We do not routinely offer UV or aqueous coatings

A word about coatings: Some customers need an extra durable finish on their print products. This is usually created by coating the end product with either a water-based or ultra-violet cured finish before the final product is cut and packaged. Both require additional chemicals, drying equipment, and wash-up chemicals, all of which negatively impact the environment. They’re also more expensive, especially in short runs.

We’re happy to have your job coated, but be sure to ask us about paper and finish options to save your environment and your wallet while still giving you the punch and durability you need for your job!

Yeah, so do I. How many times a day do you do a bulk delete of a bunch of junk mail? For me, it’s at least twice a day. Am I your customer? If so, I just deleted your email! Think about it:

* Not everyone reads stuff from the internet. If your customers are completely electronic, great! If not, the printed word is often the best way to reach them.

* It’s easy to get lost in a flood of 500 emails or get filtered out as spam, but most people only get a handful of mail every day, six days a week. Handing out printed material at networking events is even better!

* Nielsen ratings have shown that the average reader spends seconds reading an email, IF they read it. But a letter or card in the mail gets at least a few minutes.

Yes, I know email is free, but then (and I KNOW you’ve heard this before), you’re getting every penny of what you’ve paid for.

Yes you CAN afford direct mail marketing. Consider these points:

* Why do you get so much advertising in the mail? Simple, it works!

* Mailings, especially postcards, are sticky (not like jam, I mean it hangs around) – People tend to keep printed material – they stick them on the refrigerator, or tuck them in their purse.

* Doing a mailing reflects well on your business – It implies you are successful because you have money to invest in your business.

If you have names and addresses of your past customers or leads, you already have the perfect list of people to use for a mailing – no need to pay for a list (although we can do that, too!). For $169 we’ll do 250 small postcards, black ink on colored stock, with basic design, addressing, and postage included!

Call us and ask us for the details.

But then again, some of these local franchise companies can be very pricey too! Their prices are set by the franchise companies in big cities, so even if they don’t apply here in the Sacramento Valley, the franchise comnpanies have to stick with them.

Sure, the internet is cheap. But you really do get what you pay for. And don’t expect anyone to answer the phone.

Come, give us a try. We’re a local company, family owned and not a franchise, and we truly believe you’ll be pleasantly surprised by our great service and great prices.
